THE PRICE IS WRONG ! GENE: Welcome to another exciting edition of THE PRICE IS WRONG. Let?s get started. Our first contestant is ADAM ZAPPLE. ADAM, tell us a little about yourself. ADAM ZAPPLE: Well, I have an MBA, and a massive IQ. I used to work at World Com, then Enron, now I?m a financial advisor at the investment firm of Dewey, Cheatum and How. GENE:: Glad to have you ADAM ZAPPLE. I have a note from our producer that you also do magic tricks. ADAM ZAPPLE: It?ll be a real trick if I can keep my job in this economy GENE. GENE: Alright, moving on, we have AMANDA HUGANDKISS. Uh, Amanda Huggenkiss? Hey, I'm looking for Amanda Huggenkiss! Ah, why can't I find A-man-da Hugg-en-kiss? (off camera -Dave says "Maybe your standards are too high!") Thank you very little Dave. Oh there you are Amanda. AMANDA, please tell us a little about yourself. AMANDA HUGANDKISS: Well, I may not have a triple digit IQ, but I am working on an associate?s degree in Anthropology. Gene: Well that?s pretty impressive. Why Anthropology? AMANDA HUGANDKISS: Well, it?s like my favorite place to shop and since I have to spend years studying something, it only makes sense. Gene: That?s Great, I?m sure your parents are proud. Amanda, I understand you also work at the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities. AMANDA HUGANDKISS: That?s right Gene. Gene: How many people work there Amanda? AMANDA HUGANDKISS: Oh, I?d say about half of them. Gene: OK contestants, you know how the game is played. You will be shown 2 different products and will be asked to tell us which cost more. Dave, tell the contestants what they are playing for! Dave: Right you are GENE. The winner of today?s THE PRICE IS WRONG will receive a handsome, custom made, knife holder that doubles as a phone book. GENE: Very well then. Let?s get started. Contestants, the first product is wheelchair lights made for use on the Levo electric wheelchair. (a picture is shown of lights on Dave?s chair). The second product is 2, not one, but 2 High Definition, widescreen TV?s. Each Sharp 32" LCD HDTV comes with a Built-in Tuner. Key Features & Benefits: * 32" LCD screen with a 7500:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 6ms response time * Includes 2 HDMI and 2 HD component video inputs, plus D-sub, 15 pin input for PC compatibility * Enhanced color filter Enables deeper and more vivid colors GENE: OK, Adam Zapple: , you won the toss, you go first. Adam Zapple: : Well, I can tell you everything about the electronics industry and retail sales and I?m think those TVs are about $500 each. Since there?s 2 of them, I?d say the TV?s cost more than the wheelchair lights. GENE: We?ll find out soon. On to our next contestant, Amanda Hugandkiss. Which product do you think is more expensive? Amanda Hugandkiss: Well, I work at the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities and I meet tons of folks who give me the 411 about the high cost of health care. Those simple lights on Dave?s wheelchair, I?d say they?re more expensive than the 2 HD TV?s. GENE:: Let?s find out now. Dave, what is the correct answer? Dave: GENE, my lights cost $1,000. Each TV, at Wal-Mart, cost $498. Two TV?s cost $996, which is less than the cost of my lights. That makes Amanda Hugandkiss our winner of round 1. Back to you GENE. GENE: Alright contestants, in this round you must choose the more expensive of the two following products. The first product is a manual wheelchair made by TiLite. (show GENE?s chair). Dave, tell us about the other product???.. DAVE: The 2nd product is a beautiful, previously owned 1999 Ford Escort SE 4D Wagon. This car includes: AM/FM Radio, Air Conditioning, Seatbelts, Power Disc/Drum Brakes, Power Steering, 2 Wheel Front Drive and 5 Speed Manual OD Transmission. GENE:: OK ADAM, You lost the last round, so you?ll start this round. Which product cost more, the car or wheelchair? I?ll give you a clue, they each have 4 wheels. Adam Zapple: That?s a tough one GENE. Normally I would say the car but I?m getting the idea I?m in the wrong line of work. I should be selling medical equipment. I?m going to say the chair is more expensive. GENE: Now over to Amanda Hugandkiss, which item do you think cost more? Amanda Hugandkiss: So, okay, GENE, everyone who?s anyone knows TiLite wheelchairs are totally overpriced(and I have yet to locate a good knock-off) So, I think the chair cost more. GENE: Both contestants have the same answer, they both say the chair is more expensive than the car. Let?s find out. Over to you Dave. Dave: Your contestants are both right GENE! The Ford Escort Wagon sells at the no-haggle price, at CarMax for $4,849. The TiLite chair sells for $5,300, clearly more expensive by $400. That?s just to show you anytime something is medically related it is usually priced unrealistically high. These companies that sell at exorbitant prices to people who need this durable medical equipment take advantage of our situation. Whenever you have to buy medically related products, you can be sure THE PRICE IS WRONG! Back to you GENE. GENE: Adam Zapple, you go home a loser but not empty handed. As a consolation prize you?ll be taking home a copy of Donald Rumsfeld?s Greatest accomplishments during the George W. Bush administration. (THE CAMERA FOCUSES ON BOOK WITH EMPTY PAGES). Amanda Hugandkiss: Oh, I just read that. Great book. GENE: That?s all we have time for today. We?ll see you next time on THE PRICE IS WRONG! 1
